72 days…

8 Mar

… our wedding website reminds me how many days until I’m reciting the vows, that I have yet to write, to my new husband on the west beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. I know that people say time flies when you’re having fun but really IT DOES! It seems like just yesterday, the ticker was at 445 days and we were selecting our colors…gray and yellow, in case you missed that post:)

Throughout this wedding planning process, not only have Drake and I become closer but I’ve discovered that he really cares. Of course he cares about me…but he also cares about our wedding. I hear so many girls refer to it as my wedding and sometimes they don’t take into account that their future husband is as much a part of the day as they are. It’s easy to lose sight of what the focus of the day should be, which is you, together as a couple, becoming one. I’ll be the first to admit that I like things my way so it’s been tough to relinquish the reigns at times but I’ve found that by doing this it shows my respect to Drake and his opinions. And yes…sometimes his ideas are much better than mine…sometimes. It makes me happy to know that he cares about the shape of the stand for the centerpieces and the shade of gray for the table runners and the positioning of the cake table in relation to the DJ and the pattern on the cupcake wrappers and …you get the point. Even though he may not realize it, he has been a part of every decision in this process and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know that our focus may shift at times but I try to never lose sight of the fact that this day is truly representative of us and our love for one another.

We cannot wait to celebrate our love for one another as well as our love for all of our friends and family in 72 days on the sugar sand beach…

Everything’s sweeter in the South

Not just the tea.

Being back home in Alabama this past week really made me think about my life and my family. Sometimes we take family for granted and it sometimes takes a couple rough patches to really bring you back together. My sister, Angela and I have been best friends since she was born. Sure, we had our bouts as all sisters do, but our friendship never faltered. Friends used to tell us that we shared a brain. That’s probably not a compliment…but I think of her as my other half. She’s had a really tough time lately and I flew down to spend the past week with her and her precious boys. Austin (1) and Brody (2). Needless to say she has her hands full. I love those boys like they’re my own and treasure every minute spent with them, even when Brody is locking himself in the bathroom stall so I can’t change his diaper or when Austin (Bo) sticks his hands in the toilet and wipes them on my face. Austin has these awesome open mouth kisses that melt your heart and Brody’s bright blue eyes are piercing. I could literally go on all day about the boys! They are Angela’s heart and soul  and therefore, they are a hugely significant part of my life. I am extremely grateful for Angela, Brody, Austin, my mom and dad and Eddie. I don’t what I would do without them in my life. I know that everyone needs prayer, some more than others, but if you could keep Angela and her boys in your thoughts and prayers today and in the near future, I and they would really appreciate it.

The majority of my family lives in Alabama and it was so great to be able to spend time with each and everyone of them! I love you all! And to those of you in California, I love you too:)

Here are some family photos from Rachel & Jason’s wedding last weekend! Courtesy of Priscilla Sundheim:) Our photos of the wedding will be up in the next few weeks!

Wedding Season is back in full effect!

23 Jun

As many of you know, I began assisting Drake (who is now my fiance) with his photography business, Drake Busch Photography, about a year and a half ago. I started out by lugging around all his equipment and fetching random gear…”hand me the scrim, light meter, telephoto lens, etc”.  This photography business was all foreign to me. After assisting on my first wedding, I just knew that there was no way, I’d be able to continue as his “gear fetcher” so I picked up a camera and began shooting. I had no idea how much hard work and creativity went into his job! Nor did I have any idea just how much fun it would be! He began teaching me little by little and I became his second shooter…my first actual wedding was in Costa Rica for Micah and Molly’s amazing wedding over a year ago. I’m no longer scared of the terms aperature “f” numbers, shutter speeds, ISO, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a long way to go before I’m up there with the pros like Drake or Miles Witt Boyer or Dawn Sparks.

Through all of this I have found a true passion for weddings and marriage. I love seeing the gorgeous brides surrounded by their closest friends, all getting ready together. This is a time that they have that will be treasured forever…especially if they have all the photos to remember it by;) I love watching the grooms eyes light up when he sees the bride for the first time! It’s almost as though they really are seeing their future mate for the first time ever! I love watching the father of the bride tear up just before he walks his gorgeous daughter down the aisle and gives her away to someone that he can only hope will make her happy and provide for her for the next 50+ years. I love the endearing, sometimes hilarious best man speeches and imagining what they have been through with the groom over the years. I love the grandmas that get on the dancefloors with the flower girls and dance to the Cupid Shuffle. I love all the little details that go into a wedding to make it truly unique to each couple and I love being there to capture each and every one of these special moments! There are so many things about weddings that I love…I could literally go on for hours but I’ll spare you…for now:)

I want to say thank you to my incredible fiance and business partner, Drake, for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of such  an awesome adventure! And I want to say thank you to all our amazing couples who make our job truly remarkable!

I wish I could post more photos but Drake likes to hoard them all…so I will leave you with this one  from Crested Butte last weekend and hopefully I will be able to post more of my photos soon!

Mr and Mrs. DuPont!! This is truly an amazing couple from Dallas, TX and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to shoot their wedding. They were one of those couples, that you’re able to just look at and know that they will make it! Melina’s father said in his speech to the couple, they will make it because first and foremost, they have something that most couples are lacking, and that is a love for the Lord!

KISS

25 May

Every year the Professional Photographers of Colorado puts on an event called Keep It Simple Seniors or KISS. This year the event was held in Golden, CO at the Railroad Museum. We were able to take photos of some pretty incredible models who were a ton of fun to work with. We wish Hannah and Melissa the best of luck in all their future endeavors! Check out more of their photos on Drake’s blog.  We are looking forward to many more senior photography sessions in the future. Feel free to check out the rest of our work at  Drake Busch Photography.

Cupcakes Round 1

1 May

I have decided to take on the task of baking cupcakes for our wedding cupcake cake. Since my Dad’s mom (my Mom-Mom) is infamous for her amazing pound cake and since Drake and I both love pound cake, I decided to test out the recipe. Who knew pound cake had soooo much butter?!?

Here are some photos from my first test run.

I have to admit they turned out pretty delicious. However, I might need to make a few tweaks in the recipe in order for them to be wedding worthy. They were a perfect addition to our Easter dinner with friends. Thanks to Daiena and Jake for taking them home and sparing me the extra 5000 calories:)

Around the Neighborhood

10 Apr

I took a short walk around our neighborhood tonight and decided to take some photos with our new camera.

This is a photo of a super cool Vespa owned by one of our neighbors. It reminds me of the moped I rode back in Red River when I was 14. My dad insisted that I get my motorcycle license so I could drive myself around our tiny little ski town. I thought I was the coolest 14 year old around:)

Here is some graffiti on a nearby dumpster. I think I might start a graffiti series…it seems to be pretty popular, unfortunately. I find it quite sad that some people find pleasure in destroying other peoples’ property.

These next photos are random photos from some of the shops along Broadway.

The Chosen Book for the Chosen People. This photo is for my previous roommates Stephanie and Joyseph. I hope jew enjoy:)

This one reminds me of a small town in NM…Socorro reminds me of a rest area supported by stilts supposedly to keep the snakes out…eek! I’m sure the burritos are great:/

One day I hope to purchase a camper just like this and travel the world!! Or maybe just the US:)

I ❤ Tulips!!!

I also love the reflection of the tree in this door!

And back home! Lovin’ life on Logan Street!

Celebrate Spring

7 Apr

Spring is one of my favorite times of year. It’s an indication that Summer (my favorite time of year) is just around the corner! Although, today is cool and dreary in Denver, there have been more than a few Spring days and here is proof:

This daffodil is the first sign of Spring at our house. The recent cold days have caused the petals to wilt around the edges:( but I’m sure it will be revived once the 70 degree weather returns.

The cherry blossoms that line our street are also in full bloom. These trees are one of the many reasons I love our place.

Our neighbors Aaron Jones and Laura Grandis, planted some really pretty purple flowers so I had to take a photo. They are turning into quite the gardeners:) I have to admit I’m pretty jealous of their amazing vegetable and herb gardens in the backyard! Hopefully one day we’ll get around to beautifying our yard.

Here are a few reasons to celebrate the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring:

1. Flowers and green grass

2. Shorts and Sundresses

3. More daylight hours for running, of course

4. Patios and sunbathing

5. Rooftop happy hours and the return of Bud Light lime:)

6. Baseball

7. Volleyball or Scrabble in the park

8. 70+ degree weather and warm breezes

9. Not having to wear layers of clothes to work

10. Aviator sunglasses

I’m interested to see if there are any other reasons you’re excited about Spring? I’d like to hear them:)
