My one and only!

26 Mar

Since Drake dedicated a blog post to me, it is only necessary that I do the same:) We had a blast hanging out one evening last week. We did some location scouting for future engagement shoots and I had the opportunity to test out my new camera for the first time! Here are some of the shots I got of Drake Busch, my one and only! And my future husband!

Here is my version of love in the dumpster:)

This was a guy selling papers on the 16th Street Mall who asked us to take his photo.

And this was just for fun:)

Yellow. Spring. Happiness.

22 Mar

I’m not sure what has gotten into me lately; maybe it’s the warm weather, maybe the wedding planning, maybe the thought of  bumble bees and honey but I’ve found that I seriously love yellow! It reminds me of all the bright things in life that we sometimes take for granted. Those little things that make you (or me) happy! I’ve found myself wanting to redecorate the entire house in different shades of yellow…however Drake would most likely strangle me so I settled for a yellow patio chair (I would’ve done the whole set but I underestimated the amount of paint that one chair would take).

Who would’ve thought you could actually paint plastic adirondacks? We bought these chairs a couple years ago and the sun had taken it’s toll on them. First of all I had to scrub down the chairs with soap and water…

Then came the spray paint portion…my trigger finger is still sore from all the spraying.

And here is the new and improved adirondack…

And here it is beside it’s original counterpart…which will get done at some point.

Here is Drake relaxing, for once. He rarely gets time to relax so I’m glad he got to enjoy an hour on the patio.

And a few minutes later…

I wore my “boat shoes” as Drake likes to call them so I thought I’d take some shots just for fun.

I think I’m going to call them my happy shoes because the laces look like they’re smiling. I know I’m a huge dork…but I’m ok with it:And here’s a heart planter we picked up at a thrift store awhile back. It’s one of our favorite backyard additions.

Thanks for taking the time to visit the first of my many Spring time blogs. Can’t wait for more DIY projects. I’m trying to keep the creative juices flowing!

Happy Spring!

Cookies, Shoes and Magazines!

6 Mar

These are a few of my favorite things!!

Magazines – Thanks to my dear friend Jenni, I have now become addicted to bridal magazines! She got married at a lovely ranch outside Denver last August and passed down a TON of magazines to assist with my wedding planning. These magazines have consumed my time for the past few weeks. Some people call them wedding porn and I now understand why.

Shoes – I found my wedding shoes!!! Ok, one pair anyway:) These will not be sufficient for a walk down the aisle-beach style, however I think  they will be great for photos. Drake  and I found these at Goodwill a few days ago. It has been my go to place for DIY wedding items. As a matter of fact, this morning was another indication that Drake is the man of my dreams when he enthusiastically asked me (half asleep), “Do you know what today is?”, “No, what?”, “It’s 50% off day at Goodwill!” He really gets me:)

The note in the last photo was a note that Drake left before going to work, encouraging me to “play around” with the camera. It was super sweet! I can’t even begin to tell you how great he really is! I am so looking forward to spending the rest of my life with him by my side.

Cookies!! – These were amazing. So amazing in fact, that Drake didn’t even get to try them….ooops!

445 Days!

1 Mar

Wow, that seems like forever! I’m sure the time will pass quickly especially since I’ll have very little time to plan over the Summer…we now have 14 weddings booked so it’s going to be busy to say the least!

Last night Drake and I decided to head out to Wash Park to enjoy the amazing Denver sunset and Spring like weather. I was able to snap a few shots while Drake was busy testing out the video capabilities of his studio partners’ camera (the model he is considering purchasing for me…hopefully). You have no idea how excited I am about this possibility.

I know this post doesn’t have a lot to do with planning my wedding but I figured that taking photos during the off season is at least helping me plan for all the other weddings we’ll be shooting this Summer:)

Drake has joked with me saying that I'm a mini...it's become a little joke between us so I took this photo of the Mini emblem.

Winning Color Combo

22 Feb

It’s been one week since Drake and I got engaged and we’re still completely caught up in the excitement. With 452 days left until the big day, I’m thinking that it might be a good idea to slow down on the planning…or just move the wedding date up:)

We have decided on a color combination, however a lot can change in a year and 3 months but as for now, the colors are  charcoal gray and yellow.

Not to be confused with the Iowa Hawkeye black and gold:)

As most of you know, Drake is an Iowa Alumni so this just so happens to be a winning combination. However, I chose yellow because I associate yellow with happiness. I’ve also learned that yellow carries the promise of a positive future as well as instilling optimism and energy, which we could all use more of!

What better way to start off a marriage than with a promise of a positive future, happiness, optimism and energy?!

We’re looking forward to the planning process and I hope to post at least once a week from here on out. I will post the story of how we met soon and let you in on some of the details of our life together! Stay tuned…

Big Bear Valentine

15 Feb

So, I thought today it would only be appropriate to start my very own blog! Yesterday was not only Valentine’s Day, it was also the day that my Big Bear (Oso Grande) proposed to me in front of the Big Blue Bear at the Denver Convention Center.

I know you’re all dying to hear the story…ok, maybe not but I’m dying to tell it:)

To preface this story, I’ve known that this day was coming for quite some time and I thought there was no possible way that Drake could surprise me. I’m inquisitive, sometimes to a fault, and he’s not the best at keeping secrets, however he managed to amaze me this time!!

Yesterday morning (Valentine’s Day) Drake stopped by my office to deliver a dozen yellow and orange tulips with a very sweet card. It was definitely a nice surprise. I also knew that we had dinner reservations at Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse, so I assumed it would be a typical V-Day (flowers, chocolate, dinner).

I was going about my daily work routine when around 330pm my boss, Tom, told me that he needed me to meet a client in front of the Denver Convention Center to pick up some documents. He told me that I needed to take a cab because it would be difficult to carry the documents back to the office on the mall ride (Denver’s 16th Street free transportation). He told me I would be meeting a guy named Roger wearing a tan Carhartt jacket. Immediately upon exiting the cab, I saw a guy in a tan Carhartt jacket walking about a block away in the opposite direction carrying a large bag. I took off walking at my typical fast pace to catch him when all of a sudden Drake stepped out from behind the big blue bear. I was completely confused (thinking Drake probably had a wedding client meeting that I wasn’t aware of). I told him that I had to go meet Roger and I would come right back. He told me that there was no Roger and the only person I was coming to meet was him (the guy in the jacket was a complete coincidence). He had a red rose in his hand that led me to believe that he and Tom had schemed a ficticious meeting with “Roger”. He began by saying that he was completely in love with me and that he had dreamed of this day for years. He asked me if I would be his little bear forever and ever. And I of course said yes, yes and a thousand times yes!!!

A passerby saw us and said that we looked so happy and offered to take our picture. (Good thing Drake keeps his camera on hand:) He said that he and his wife have been happily married for 45 years and he remembered how happy that day was for him and his wife.

Drake then proceeded to take me to the Peaks Lounge at the top of the Hyatt where we celebrated with champagne and strawberries while overlooking all of downtown Denver. It was absolutely perfect!
